World Book day 2019
World Book day is on Thursday 7th March 2019. This is the 22nd year there's been a World Book Day, a day where children of all ages will come together to appreciate reading. Rolls Crescent will be recognising World Book Day by having a number of activities to promote the enjoyment of books and the valuable part they play in our education.
One of these activities is to come to school in Fancy Dress. This year the foundation stage will have the theme of Julia Donaldson books. Perhaps your pupils could come dressed as the Gruffalo, or the witch from Room on a broom, maybe even as Cave Baby. There are lots of choices. KS1 and 2 have been challenged to dress as an exciting word, this is to help with our vocabulary focus. Have a look at the back of the letter we sent out this week for some ideas.
We will have our annual World Book Assembly where staff will read to our pupils, we will have a vocabulary parade and we will announce winners of our competitions.
We will also be holding a ‘Book Swap’ we would like your child to bring a book from home that they have read. Throughout the day children who have brought a book will be able to exchange the book they have brought for a different book with the aim of as many children as possible having a different book to go home with at the end of the day.
This year we will give all children a free ‘World Book Day’ voucher worth £1.00 which can be exchanged for a specially produced World Book Day book or as £1.00 off the cost of a full priced book.
Staff will also be planning other activities, competitions and work for their specific classes. We are sure it will be a great day for our pupils.
